Hey Me at Rail Live 2023 – key takeaways
Posted by Amelia Spanton on 30 June 2023

Last week, our Communications Executive Amelia and Business Support Administrator Laura, headed down to Warwickshire for this year’s Rail Live!

Rail Live is an annual event that brings together professionals, innovators, and thought leaders from within the rail industry. The event provides a unique platform for attendees to connect with industry leaders, explore cutting-edge technologies, showcase their expertise, and foster collaborative opportunities.

A number of our clients from the rail, technology and innovation sectors were also in attendance at this year’s event.

Rail Live is renowned in the industry not only as a great event, but a hot and sunny one and this year did not disappoint. So, let’s dive into Rail Live 2023!

Meeting clients and collaborators

As always, we’re delighted to meet up with our clients and collaborators face-to-face at industry events! Abi Broadley, rail industry consultant, was attending with RaisE Business Centre and we had the chance to talk all things rail.

We were lucky enough to visit the HIRD Group stand and chat with the team who were exhibiting an array of sustainable and innovative products tailored for the rail industry. The HIRD Group is a collection of businesses that includes HIRD Rail Development, Trough-Tec Systems, HIRD Rail Development BV and HIRD Rail Services. It was a pleasure to see Lucy Prior, Xavier Guilhen, Andre Dul, and the rest of the team. It’s always insightful to see the products in person and to get to know more about the companies’ sustainable credentials.

We were also pleased to see Paul Geary from RTS Solutions for a  quick catch up   in the glorious sunshine. RTS Solutions produce digital solutions that improve operational performance across the rail network, from resource management to maintenance.

The Railway Industry Association (RIA) tent provided some wonderfully cool shade and offered a chance to catch up with our friends at RIA. As a member of RIA ourselves, we’re always glad to see RIA advocate for the industry and act as a voice for the supply chain. Over the years, we’ve been to a whole host of RIA events, always learning something new and meeting great connections. Our team has also supported many RIA members whilst they grow in the industry.

Amelia and Laura also popped by the One Big Circle tent to catch up with the team and also to pick up a set of post cards of the UK rail network’s stunning views captured by AIVR, the onboard camera solution.

Discovering Cutting-Edge Technologies

Essential to Rail Live are the technologies, products and rolling stock on show. There were some fascinating solutions showcased at the event. In the Network Rail Village, we got a behind-the-scenes look at intelligent infrastructure monitoring as well as innovative approaches to engineering.

We loved the ‘Tech Trumps’ that we picked up from the Network Rail Village – such as fun way to learn more about the technological advancements in the industry.

Learning from industry experts

At Hey Me, we strive to continuously learn and upskill. Attending events like this offer a brilliant chance to learn from others. Not only did we see new technologies, but we also heard from industry experts, including the Office of Rail and Road, HS2, Network Rail, Siemens Mobility, and many more.

“Since day one, Amy herself has fit seamlessly into our team, understanding the message we want to convey and the audiences we want to reach. Her upfront audit was invaluable in helping us internally hone our common voice, which has demonstrated itself in the consistency of the content we put out as a brand and as individuals within the company. Behind the scenes, Amy has instinctively adopted our internal communication methods (Slack, SharePoint) and works closely with our in-house graphic design team to ensure our graphics and copy are in sync.” Lucy Prior MBE - previously from 3Squared 2021
“After meeting Amy a few years ago, I was able to provide her with an opportunity to manage the comms on a major alliance, alongside Marie from Doodle HR, which she flourished at. Amy helped me to implement a more structured approach, freeing up my time to work more closely with clients and create new content. Hey Me are easy to deal with and quick to provide valuable solutions; I wouldn’t hesitate to work with Amy and the team again” Karen Duncan - Lanehead Coniston
“Working with Hey Me is very straight forward - they take you through whatever process is needed, with clear instruction and good ideas. Since working with Hey Me, Zak Mobility now has a strong brand identity and purposeful website that is fit for purpose. I would recommend Hey Me to other companies, as they do a professional job with a friendly face.” Sam Pearce - CEO, Zak Mobility
“As a member of the RIA SME Leadership team, Amy ran a slimdown version of the Hey Me messaging workshops in 2023. The workshops helped the team to delve deeper into what the SME group stood for, what it meant to them as individuals and businesses and what they wanted to gain from communications. By holding up a mirror to those in the group and using a tiered approach, the group was able to find a common purpose and with Hey Me's help, a common language which best represented the aims of the leadership team and our RIA SME members. The fantastic results of this can be seen in action on our SME page of our website.” Isabella Lawson - Railway Industry Association
