Using a holistic communications approach to help define the Zak Mobility brand
Here at Hey Me we thrive on getting involved with a range of communication activities for our clients, from developing a brand’s visual identity alongside Rapport Creative, to crafting clear brand messages and positioning, through to generating a funnel of strategic thought leadership content angles and website production. There is no one size fits all approach to the work that we do, something that our team members succeed in and that our clients benefit significantly from.
An example of our holistic communications support can be found in our work with in-wheel suspension innovators Zak Mobility. Earlier this year, we were presented with an exciting opportunity to work with an organisation that is doing fantastic things in the mobility space, at a nascent time in their journey.
Zak Mobility is a leading expert in the world of in-wheel suspension for eCargo bikes. Through its innovative patented technology, Zak Mobility’s in-wheel suspension is in the process of adhering to industry wide EN standards, ensuring its users safety and increasing reliability for its customers.
The engineers behind Zak Mobility understand the in-wheel suspension market more than most, and how to create solutions that adapt to this market. Using high-performance composite springs, its wheels are cost neutral, offering users a quicker build time and lower running costs.
It was an exciting time for the team to delve into the previously untapped world of mobility, learning all about the eCargo bike market and the wealth of benefits the industry provides. Reflecting on the project, we spoke to Sam Pearce, CEO at Zak Mobility, on his experience of working with the Hey Me team and what’s in store for Zak Mobility next year:
Hi Sam, thanks for your time. We thoroughly enjoyed working on such an exciting project, that saw us utilising a range of different communication tactics. How did find working with the Hey Me team?
Working with Hey Me is very straight forward – they take you through whatever process is needed, with clear instruction and good ideas. I would recommend Hey Me to other companies, as they do a professional job with a friendly face.
What drew you to working with Hey Me?
I first came across Hey Me during a communications presentation they did as part of the Department of Transport’s (DfT) Transport Research and Innovation Grants (TRIG), which I am involved in as a cohort member. I liked their approach to marketing and branding, so approached them after the session to explore how we could work together.
Before you began working with Hey Me, what communications objectives did you have in mind for Zak Mobility?
Zak Mobility had an outdated brand and very basic website. As part of the project, we briefed Hey Me to do a full review of the brand and provide feedback as to how the brand needed to evolve.
Our work with Zak Mobility was varied, from messaging to website development and branding. Was there a particular element to the project that you enjoyed most?
I always enjoy the more visual side of branding, so the website development alongside our appointed developers Kootoo gave me the most satisfaction.
How do you think communications will support you and Zak going forward?
Zak Mobility now has a strong brand identity and purposeful website that is fit for purpose. Going forward, we still need to communicate a strong message about in-wheel suspension to commercialise our products in chosen markets.
What does the future of Zak Mobility look like?
Zak Mobility has a world beating innovative technology that will help to make the electrification of our transport system more efficient and effective. This, in turn, will help reduce CO2 emissions and pollution in our cities and urban settings.
Thank you for your time, Sam. We look forward to seeing what’s in store for Zak Mobility and encourage you to give them a follow on LinkedIn and Instagram.
