Getting out and about at events large and small, across the UK
As we pass the halfway point of the year, we reflect on a busy couple of months for the Hey Me team. With a remote team based across the UK, we are in a fortunate position to be able to attend a range of exciting events across the country.
June was a particularly busy month for the team, from attending the Connected Places Catapult TRIG Showcase in Leeds, FusionFest in Glasgow, and finally the joint Women in Rail and Women in Transport anniversary celebrations in Edinburgh.
Kicking off the start of the month, our Founder and MD Amy Jeffs, attended the TRIG Showcase in Leeds. The first event post maternity leave this was the perfect event to dive back in.
This event combined networking with briefings and panels focusing on the innovation process and the next challenge.
“After running a communications workshop at the beginning of this TRIG cohort’s journey, the Showcase was a great opportunity to meet the innovators in person and see how they’ve progressed during the year.”
Next up Emma Lever, our Senior Communications Manager, attended FusionFest – the key event in Glasgow Tech Week’s action-packed calendar. Held at the University of Strathclyde’s Innovation Centre, the event attracted a range of delegates from across the technology, academic and creative sectors.
Featuring a range of thought-provoking presentations and panels, a particular standout came from Jo Fairley, the Co-Founder of organic chocolate Greene and Black. When delving into the foundations behind the brand, Jo remarked that storytelling is something that you should consider throughout all touchpoints – something that truly resonates with the Hey Me team and an ethos that we too strongly advocate in our day-to-day.
Finally, Emma also attended the Women in Transport and Women in Rail anniversary celebrations at the befitting Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh. The event featured an uplifting keynote from Fiona Hyslop, Cabinet Secretary and a panel comprised of transport leaders, including Hannah Ross (CEO of Scottish Rail Holdings), Joanne Maguire (MD ScotRail), Valerie Davidson (CEO of SPT), Stephanie Tobyn (Director ORR), Alison Irvine (CEO of Transport Scotland) and Diane Burke (COO Calmac).
The discussion shone a light on the fantastic steps that the wider transport industry is taking as regards diversity and inclusion, and how we can work together to encourage younger females to explore transport as a career option. Our team at Hey Me have worked in and around the rail sector for well over a decade now and understand the exciting opportunities that a career in transport can afford, which made this session a thoroughly enjoyable one.
It has been great to discover new innovations, connect with our wider industries and forge new connections this month. We look forward to attending more events as the year continues and if you ever see a member of the Hey Me team at an event, make sure to say hello.
