Five communication trends for 2025
With a team possessing over 30+ years of experience in communications, Hey Me understand how to create meaningful content that chimes with its audience. However, they also understand the need for new technologies and trends to come along that improve communication processes and promote brands to the right audience, at the right time.
Trends come and go over the years, however what remains consistent is the need for businesses to harness succinct, clear cut and well-defined communication strategies, to make a positive impact upon their audience.
To delve into the key trends that we anticipate will dominate 2025 and beyond, we have taken the time to cast our eye upon the coming year and identify five key communication trends for 2025:
1 – The acceleration of AI
Over the course of the last twenty years, we have experienced a vast technological leap in the world of communications. From the advent of social media to the decline of print media, the embracing of multimedia content – the world of communications in 2025 looks remarkably different to that of the world in 2005.
Each technological leap has radically transformed the way in which we both engage with and consume content. However, we anticipate that we may start to see the beginning of a landmark leap soon in the uptake of artificial intelligence (AI).
In the broadest sense, AI is intelligence exhibited by machines, in particular computer systems. Borne from the world of computer science, it evolves through analysing and learning – not too dissimilar to the way in which communication experts listen and take the time to understand audience’s needs.
The technology is set to make waves in the world of communications this year. We are already seeing AI being employed to create marketing campaigns and social media posts, and in 2025 we expect to see this trend continue to grow, with companies harnessing AI to optimise content creation and create more personalised content for target audiences.
However, whilst there are certainly benefits to the technology, for example automating lengthy time-consuming processes such as data analytics, we believe that there still needs to be the space for creative experts to generate new ideas from experience for clients and produce content that makes a meaningful, human-to-human impact.
2 – Shape your communications strategy through data and analytics
Data and analytics play an imperative role in a communications professional day-to-day. From measuring campaign success through to tracking website traffic and clicks, to tracking and recording media coverage – data and analysis is integral in measuring success and determining the content that works and that which doesn’t.
This has been a constant for some time now and we anticipate this year will be no different. What we do see evolving and as highlighted above, is the introduction of AI to automate the process and analyse the findings.
The key to success in this sphere is to take the information and use it to your advantage, rather than leaving it sitting dormant. Embrace data and analytics and use it to your advantage, to inform your communications strategy this year and beyond.
3 – The Twitter exodus and the rise of new social media giants
The geopolitical landscape looks set to change significantly in 2025 and so too does the world of social media. In 2024, we saw an influx of users abandon X (formerly known as Twitter) to new channels, such as Bluesky. TikTok continues to grow in popularity, with a growth rate of +6.7% in 2024. Tech giant Meta, who owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and more, also has expanded its dominance, with daily active users growing 5% in 2024.
Social media giants continue to dominate and own the media landscape. This is something that shows no sign of slowing down in 2025. However, this isn’t without controversy as highlighted in the recent announcement by Meta that it plans to abandon the use of independent fact checkers on Facebook and Instagram. A bold move that we as communication experts will observe closely this year.
4 – The increasing importance of news aggregators
In today’s information loaded world, we discover news and information from a range of sources – from online to offline, broadcast to social media. We consume content from a diverse range of channels, which can be both beneficial and disadvantageous.
Media owners often have different viewpoints, which can make the stories you receive inconsistent and unaligned. Too many voices can often disrupt how you interpret the stories. It can also be very time-consuming for the audience to research and take in information from such a diverse range of sources. This is where the role of news aggregators come in.
A news aggregator app is a web application that gathers syndicated web content such as blogs, online newspapers, videos, and podcasts in one holistic location, accessible and seamless for audience consumption.
They save time and effort as you can tailor the content you receive, highlighting your preferred news choices, and receive all updates in a glance. With such a rich benefit in today’s news saturated world, we anticipate that this will not only be a key trend for 2025, but something that is here to stay.
5 – Create a meaningful brand that resonates
There is no denying that content consumption is at an all-time high, from the moment we wake up until the moment we go to bed. Content is everywhere. However, how do you create a brand that not only makes an impact on its audience but continues to resonate and make a lasting impact, for the long-term?
It may be no surprise to hear this but a well-crafted communications strategy, that dissects your brand and takes the time to understand your audience needs is the answer. Here at Hey Me, since our inception we have worked closely with a range of organisations building their communications and brand identity from the ground up.
At the beginning of each journey, we kick off with our bespoke messaging workshops. These are a fantastic starting point to develop your brand identity and create concise messages that relate to your brand ethos.
This isn’t something that we anticipate as a trend for 2025 – in fact, this is something that should be a mainstay of every single business that is looking to make an impact upon its audience and gain longevity. If you don’t feel that you have this resource internally, Hey Me provide a range of services and toolkits that can help you with this, which you can find out more about here.
