Amy looks upwards towards suspended lights

This week marks our fifth birthday. Five years of client expansion, team growth, successes, and milestones.

We have learnt so much since the business began led solely by Amy Jeffs, our Founder and Managing Director, and have taken the time to reflect on our journey and what the future has in store for Hey Me.

The media and communications landscape has rapidly evolved since we began in 2017. With that, we too have had to quickly change and adapt, taking in the global pandemic and other challenges along the way. One of the key changes has been the the increasing use of digital means in which our clients choose to engage and communicate with their target audiences.

As communicators passionate about promoting our clients work, we often forget to champion our own work, which through our new website marks a shift change in how we communicate the Hey Me story going forward. To reflect our growth and expansion, we have worked hard to revise and enhance the website, to better showcase who we are and what we do to the external world.

Prior to establishing Hey Me, Amy worked for an array of companies from small agencies to multinational corporations She went on to create Hey Me to establish a better work-life balance and help manage her chronic illness better.

Since then, the team has grown to include members across the length and breadth of the UK. Through its flexible working policy, Hey Me enables its team to go above and beyond, learn new skills, and have a role which works around a range of requirements from childcare to academia. Staff retention remains high which is testament to the value and trust Amy places in her team and the enjoyment they get from working for Hey Me.

Client wise, it has certainly been busy, with a steady stream of new businesses and projects coming through the door. Starting out, Hey Me worked with only one or two clients at a time, largely on a project-to-project basis. Now in 2022, we are proud to work with businesses from across the rail, technology, and coaching sectors. Looking ahead, we are focused on building on our existing relationships and nurturing new ones, championing the stories that matter in an impactful and meaningful way.

Amy reflects on the five years since Hey Me began:

“When I set off on my Hey Me journey it was hard to think of where I might end up. Originally working as a freelancer, I couldn’t really imagine it growing into an agency. But, as time went on, I found more opportunities to work with fantastic people and the team began to take shape.

“When the team did begin to grow, I wanted to make sure that everyone had the flexibility to fit their working life around their home life. As creatives, we work best at different times of the day and night and ensuring we have flexibility enables the team to deliver their best work when it most suits them. As long as we’re around when our clients need us, we offer the best possible service and we’re able to support each other – that’s what it’s all about.”

Here’s to the next five years in the Hey Me journey!

“Since day one, Amy herself has fit seamlessly into our team, understanding the message we want to convey and the audiences we want to reach. Her upfront audit was invaluable in helping us internally hone our common voice, which has demonstrated itself in the consistency of the content we put out as a brand and as individuals within the company. Behind the scenes, Amy has instinctively adopted our internal communication methods (Slack, SharePoint) and works closely with our in-house graphic design team to ensure our graphics and copy are in sync.” Lucy Prior MBE - previously from 3Squared 2021
“After meeting Amy a few years ago, I was able to provide her with an opportunity to manage the comms on a major alliance, alongside Marie from Doodle HR, which she flourished at. Amy helped me to implement a more structured approach, freeing up my time to work more closely with clients and create new content. Hey Me are easy to deal with and quick to provide valuable solutions; I wouldn’t hesitate to work with Amy and the team again” Karen Duncan - Lanehead Coniston
“Working with Hey Me is very straight forward - they take you through whatever process is needed, with clear instruction and good ideas. Since working with Hey Me, Zak Mobility now has a strong brand identity and purposeful website that is fit for purpose. I would recommend Hey Me to other companies, as they do a professional job with a friendly face.” Sam Pearce - CEO, Zak Mobility
“As a member of the RIA SME Leadership team, Amy ran a slimdown version of the Hey Me messaging workshops in 2023. The workshops helped the team to delve deeper into what the SME group stood for, what it meant to them as individuals and businesses and what they wanted to gain from communications. By holding up a mirror to those in the group and using a tiered approach, the group was able to find a common purpose and with Hey Me's help, a common language which best represented the aims of the leadership team and our RIA SME members. The fantastic results of this can be seen in action on our SME page of our website.” Isabella Lawson - Railway Industry Association
